Welcome to Creatures of Delight®, the weird and wacky world created by T. Oliver Kopian.
Each piece is painstakingly hand crafted from start to finish in a unique patented process known as Rubber Plush®.
The finished product is a cross between paper mache, molded rubber and a stuffed animal. All aspects of the process are done by hand... from the original sculpting and molding, to hand stuffing, and ultimately airbrush and detail painting.
Puppets, dolls, and more, take the form of dinosaurs, dragons, trolls and even clouds!
The ever growing cast of characters of Creatures of Delight® are collected worldwide by ever growing numbers of fans. The pieces are still signed and dated by T. Oliver Kopian, and many of the large pieces are even numbered. | The Original Fleas were first created over 30 years ago.
Using simple tools such as, an oxy-acetylene torch, tin snips, pliers, a hammer and a vice, the artists handmake their flea sculptures from basic materials such as light gauge cold rolled steel and mild steel welding rod. They have a very old flywheel punch press that they use to stamp out the small half egg shaped parts that are welded together to make the FLEAs body . Everything else is hand formed. They snip, bend, heat, pound and weld until the sculpture looks right. A typical sculpture takes from a few minutes to a couple of hours to complete. They also cut their own bases from premium redwood, sand and finish them with three coats of clear lacquer. The Quayles are the only ones that touch the OriginalFLEA sculptures. They do no subcontracting, nor do they use any mass production methods or processes. One of the benefits of the FLEA sculptures being handmade is that each one is unique.
